Feeding Guide

The amount of follow‑on formula you prepare depends on your baby's age and their individual needs.

Age
of babyCooled boiled water (ml) Level Scoops of Powder* Number of Feeds Per Day
6 – 9 months20043 - 4
9 – 12 months20044

* Level Scoop ≈ 8.5 g of powder.

1 scoop of power added to 50ml water yields approximately 56ml of formula. This is a general feeding guide only. Infants may need more or less formula. Greater reliance should be placed on solid foods in addition to breastmilk and/or formula for nutrition from around 6 months.

DENTAL HYGIENE

Avoid putting your baby to sleep with a bottle, as it can lead to tooth decay.

CUP FEEDING GUIDELINES

Introduce a baby feeding cup at around 6 months of age, to teach your baby the skill of sipping from a cup.

Check temperature of feed on the inside of your wrist before feeding. It should feel warm, but cool is better than too hot. Feed your baby immediately. Discard any feed that has not been consumed within 1 hour.

It is safer to prepare each bottle individually and use immediately. If a bottle of made up formula is to be stored prior to use, it must be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Never use a microwave for any formula preparation or to warm-up feeds. Visit our website for instructions to warm-up feeds or if feeds need to be prepared in advance for later use.

FAQs about feeding with
a2 Platinum® Premium follow‑on formula Stage 2

Is a2 Platinum® Premium follow‑on formula the same as a Stage 2 formula?

Yes. a2 Platinum® Premium follow‑on formula is often referred to as a2 Platinum® Stage 2. We created this formula to follow on from a2 Platinum® Premium infant formula and meet the nutritional requirements of bottle‑ or cup‑fed babies from six months and up.

What is a Stage 2 formula?

a2 Platinum® Premium follow‑on formula is specifically designed to meet the growing nutritional needs of babies aged six months and up and to complement solids. It contains increased levels of key nutrients, for example iron, and may have a slightly different taste or texture.

When do you transition your baby from Stage 1 to Stage 2 formula?

Transition timing varies by individual development but should never be earlier than six months. Stage 1 is suitable from birth; Stage 2 is intended once solids have begun.

How do you switch from Stage 1 to Stage 2 formula?

Introduce Stage 2 gradually over one to two weeks, increasing Stage 2 feeds while decreasing Stage 1 feeds and monitoring tolerance.

Can I mix Stage 1 and Stage 2 formulas in the same bottle or cup?

Mixing is not recommended as it disrupts each formula's intended nutritional profile and may lead to inconsistent nutrient supply.

Can you give a baby younger than six months a2 Platinum® Premium follow‑on formula?

No. The composition is suitable only for infants over six months of age.

Are Stage 2 formulas harder to digest than Stage 1?

Tolerance is individual. Some babies adjust easily; others may have temporary digestive changes. Consult a healthcare professional if concerned.

How long does the formula last once opened?

An opened can remains safe for four weeks if stored in a cool, dry place with the lid closed. Discard any unused powder after that time.

Supporting Your Family's Feeding Choices

We believe breastfeeding is best to provide ideal nutrition for babies, and other important health benefits. Good nutrition for mums is important throughout pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. However, we understand breastfeeding may not be an option for everyone. To support you on your feeding journey, we recommend speaking to a healthcare professional. Introducing formula either partially or exclusively may reduce breast milk supply, which isn’t easy to re-establish. It is also important to consider the social and financial impacts of formula, such as potential cost of providing formula until your baby is 12 months old. When using infant formula, always follow the preparation instructions carefully. Improper use can make your baby unwell. Information about our infant formula products is for educational and informational purposes only.
